Urban Grids: Sagrada Família, La Pedrera & Plaça d'Espanya
by Sergio Aranda
The Concept & Architectural Harmony
This original mixed-media artwork from the Urban Grids collection celebrates some of Barcelona's most iconic architectural landmarks, bringing together different eras, artistic movements, and visions of the city within a single composition.
At the center rise the unmistakable spires of Antoni Gaudí's Sagrada Família, one of the world's most extraordinary architectural achievements and a symbol of Barcelona's creative spirit. Its soaring forms embody innovation, imagination, and the unique artistic language that has made the city internationally renowned.
Complementing the composition are the flowing stone façades and sculptural balconies of Casa Milà (La Pedrera), another masterpiece by Gaudí and one of the finest expressions of Catalan Modernisme. Its organic forms create a beautiful contrast to the vertical rhythm of the basilica.
Balancing the scene are the elegant Venetian Towers and the monumental fountain of Plaça d'Espanya, architectural landmarks that reflect Barcelona's civic ambition and urban grandeur. Together, these structures create a visual journey through the city's architectural evolution, from historic monumentality to artistic experimentation.
Beneath the landmarks unfolds an abstract interpretation of Barcelona's famous urban grid. Inspired by the geometric order of the Eixample district, the composition transforms the city's streets and avenues into a poetic network of lines, geometry, and memory.
More than an architectural portrait, this artwork is a tribute to Barcelona's enduring spirit of creativity, innovation, and beauty.
The Artisanal Process & Fine Cotton Paper
Created in my Barcelona studio, each artwork begins as a hand-pulled serigraph on premium museum-quality fine cotton paper featuring beautiful natural deckled edges.
Through a process of artist intervention, I individually enrich every piece with watercolor, acrylic, and archival inks, creating subtle variations in texture, atmosphere, and depth. Layers of transparent color, delicate washes, and carefully controlled details transform each work into a unique mixed-media creation.
No two artworks are ever identical. Each piece evolves beyond its original foundation and develops its own visual character while preserving the architectural precision of the original design.
Far beyond a conventional edition, every artwork is individually enhanced by the artist, ensuring that collectors acquire a truly distinctive work with its own presence and personality.

Art Care & Preservation
Art Care & Preservation
- Display & Lighting: While the archival varnish provides high-end UV protection, we highly recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to direct, harsh sunlight. To fully appreciate the shifting shadows of the sculptural gesso, display the piece under high-quality ambient lighting or dedicated LED art spotlights.
- Dusting & Cleaning: Due to the rich, sand-crusted organic texture, dust may settle over time. Never use water, liquid cleaners, damp cloths, or chemical solvents on the surface. To clean, gently sweep the textured relief using a dry, clean, soft-bristled brush (such as a premium makeup brush or a soft hake paintbrush).
- Humidity & Temperature: Fine art canvases thrive in stable environments. Display your painting in spaces with controlled humidity and temperature. Avoid hanging the artwork directly above heavy heat sources (like active fireplaces or radiators) or in high-moisture rooms like small, unventilated bathrooms.
- Handling: When moving or hanging your artwork, always hold it securely by the wooden stretcher bar edges. Avoid pressing directly against the center of the canvas to protect the structural tension and the delicate, raised mineral reliefs.
