Barcelona Iron Rosette II
The Warmth of Oxidized Iron
Some architectural details are so familiar that they become invisible.
Barcelona Iron Rosette II brings one of Barcelona's overlooked urban elements into the world of contemporary art. Inspired by the ornamental cast-iron rosettes found throughout the city's historic streets, this original mixed media artwork transforms a functional architectural detail into a sculptural composition celebrating craftsmanship, geometry, and the passage of time.
Unlike the first piece in the series, this second interpretation is dominated by rich oxidized orange and burnt rust tones that evoke iron naturally aged beneath decades of Mediterranean sun, humidity, and city life. The warm central relief appears embedded within a heavily textured mineral surface, creating the impression of an archaeological fragment carefully preserved rather than simply painted.
Entirely handcrafted in my Barcelona studio, the work is built using professional acrylics and multiple layers of mixed media to create a deeply tactile relief. Mineral textures, weathered surfaces, subtle oxidation effects, and sculptural modeling interact with changing light, allowing every engraved geometric line to cast delicate shadows throughout the day.
Its restrained palette of charcoal black, oxidized orange, rust, and mineral earth tones makes the artwork equally suited to industrial lofts, contemporary architecture, Mediterranean interiors, boutique hotels, design studios, and collectors drawn to urban history and architectural abstraction.
More than an abstract painting, Barcelona Iron Rosette II preserves a small fragment of Barcelona's architectural identity—where geometry, craftsmanship, and time converge into a timeless contemporary artwork.

Art Care & Preservation
Art Care & Preservation
- Display & Lighting: While the archival varnish provides high-end UV protection, we highly recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to direct, harsh sunlight. To fully appreciate the shifting shadows of the sculptural gesso, display the piece under high-quality ambient lighting or dedicated LED art spotlights.
- Dusting & Cleaning: Due to the rich, sand-crusted organic texture, dust may settle over time. Never use water, liquid cleaners, damp cloths, or chemical solvents on the surface. To clean, gently sweep the textured relief using a dry, clean, soft-bristled brush (such as a premium makeup brush or a soft hake paintbrush).
- Humidity & Temperature: Fine art canvases thrive in stable environments. Display your painting in spaces with controlled humidity and temperature. Avoid hanging the artwork directly above heavy heat sources (like active fireplaces or radiators) or in high-moisture rooms like small, unventilated bathrooms.
- Handling: When moving or hanging your artwork, always hold it securely by the wooden stretcher bar edges. Avoid pressing directly against the center of the canvas to protect the structural tension and the delicate, raised mineral reliefs.
