Fault Line
Original Mixed Media Painting on Canvas
Some fractures do not destroy. They reveal.
Fault Line explores the invisible tension that exists between opposing forces—light and darkness, stillness and movement, erosion and permanence. Across the center of the composition, a bold horizontal black band cuts through a luminous mineral-white surface like a geological fault, exposing the hidden history beneath.
Built over numerous handcrafted layers, the painting combines rich relief, engraved textures, and subtle weathered marks that shift with changing light. Every surface has been patiently developed using Sergio Aranda's signature mixed-media technique, creating a tactile landscape that invites both visual and physical contemplation.
Inspired by weathered architecture, ancient walls, and the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, Fault Line transforms simplicity into presence. Rather than depicting a place, it evokes the passage of time itself—where materials age with dignity and imperfection becomes beauty.
Its restrained palette of soft whites, mineral greys, and deep black allows the work to integrate effortlessly into contemporary, minimalist, Scandinavian, Japandi, industrial, and architectural interiors while maintaining a powerful visual identity.
A timeless one-of-a-kind artwork created for collectors who appreciate texture, materiality, and quiet sophistication.

The Artisanal Process
Every layer is created entirely by hand.
A sculptural foundation of premium gesso and genuine marble dust is built directly onto the canvas before being carved, engraved, and refined through multiple applications. Thin veils of mineral pigments and acrylic paint are then applied, allowing earlier layers to remain partially visible, creating remarkable depth and complexity.
The result is a highly tactile surface whose appearance changes throughout the day as natural light reveals new textures, shadows, and subtle variations.
No printed elements or digital textures are used—every mark is physically present within the artwork.

Art Care & Preservation
Art Care & Preservation
- Display & Lighting: While the archival varnish provides high-end UV protection, we highly recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to direct, harsh sunlight. To fully appreciate the shifting shadows of the sculptural gesso, display the piece under high-quality ambient lighting or dedicated LED art spotlights.
- Dusting & Cleaning: Due to the rich, sand-crusted organic texture, dust may settle over time. Never use water, liquid cleaners, damp cloths, or chemical solvents on the surface. To clean, gently sweep the textured relief using a dry, clean, soft-bristled brush (such as a premium makeup brush or a soft hake paintbrush).
- Humidity & Temperature: Fine art canvases thrive in stable environments. Display your painting in spaces with controlled humidity and temperature. Avoid hanging the artwork directly above heavy heat sources (like active fireplaces or radiators) or in high-moisture rooms like small, unventilated bathrooms.
- Handling: When moving or hanging your artwork, always hold it securely by the wooden stretcher bar edges. Avoid pressing directly against the center of the canvas to protect the structural tension and the delicate, raised mineral reliefs.
