Remnants of Light is an original textured abstract mixed media painting by contemporary artist Sergio Aranda, created in 2021.

Layers of atmospheric blue descend through the composition, moving from luminous icy tones into increasingly deep shades of navy and black. Between these darker strata, fragments of metallic gold emerge across the textured surface like traces of light preserved within the material.

The painting suggests an imaginary landscape without describing a specific place. Vertical marks and fluid traces create a sense of movement, while the heavily textured central passage establishes an almost geological horizon between light and darkness.

Gold plays an essential role in the composition. Rather than functioning simply as decoration, it appears fragmented, partially concealed and embedded within the surface — something discovered rather than applied.

The work is constructed through successive layers of paint, texture and material. Some are exposed while others are almost completely buried, allowing earlier stages of the painting to survive as subtle traces within the finished surface.
