Rust & Gold — 2026
Original Minimalist Mixed Media Painting by Sergio Aranda
Rust & Gold explores the quiet beauty of aging materials, combining Japanese washi paper, layered textures, natural rust effects, and delicate golden reflections in a contemporary abstract composition.
The upper portion of the canvas reveals a luminous interplay of soft whites, warm grays, and subtle metallic highlights. Fragments of Japanese washi paper merge with richly textured surfaces, creating intricate patterns that invite the viewer to discover new details with every glance.
Below, a dramatic band of deep rust red, burnt orange, and dark earthy tones introduces warmth and intensity. Its rugged, oxidized appearance contrasts beautifully with the delicate, almost ethereal atmosphere above.
Subtle golden reflections catch the light across the surface, adding depth and a refined sense of luminosity without disturbing the artwork's minimalist character.
Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, this original painting celebrates imperfection, transformation, and the natural passage of time.
The contrast between the serenity of the upper layers and the raw energy of the rust creates a composition that feels both peaceful and powerful.
“I paint the memory of materials.” — Sergio Aranda

With its rich textures, elegant neutral tones, warm rust colors, and subtle gold reflections, Rust & Gold brings depth, character, and understated sophistication to contemporary interiors.
Its balanced square format makes it particularly suitable for minimalist spaces, industrial lofts, wabi-sabi interiors, and carefully curated art collections.
More than a decorative painting, this original mixed media artwork invites you to explore the beauty of aged surfaces, unexpected textures, and the poetic transformation of materials.
A unique work of art where Japanese paper, rust, texture, and light come together in perfect harmony.
Art Care & Preservation
Art Care & Preservation
- Display & Lighting: While the archival varnish provides high-end UV protection, we highly recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to direct, harsh sunlight. To fully appreciate the shifting shadows of the sculptural gesso, display the piece under high-quality ambient lighting or dedicated LED art spotlights.
- Dusting & Cleaning: Due to the rich, sand-crusted organic texture, dust may settle over time. Never use water, liquid cleaners, damp cloths, or chemical solvents on the surface. To clean, gently sweep the textured relief using a dry, clean, soft-bristled brush (such as a premium makeup brush or a soft hake paintbrush).
- Humidity & Temperature: Fine art canvases thrive in stable environments. Display your painting in spaces with controlled humidity and temperature. Avoid hanging the artwork directly above heavy heat sources (like active fireplaces or radiators) or in high-moisture rooms like small, unventilated bathrooms.
- Handling: When moving or hanging your artwork, always hold it securely by the wooden stretcher bar edges. Avoid pressing directly against the center of the canvas to protect the structural tension and the delicate, raised mineral reliefs.
