Sergio Aranda | Contemporary Abstract Artist in Barcelona
Sergio Aranda is a Spanish-Swiss contemporary abstract artist based in Barcelona, internationally recognized for his textured mixed media paintings inspired by erosion, industrial surfaces, architectural geometry, and the poetry of time.
Working between contemporary abstraction, material experimentation, and minimalist composition, his artworks explore the emotional beauty of weathered textures, layered surfaces, organic imperfections, and urban memory. Through acrylic paint, collage, sawdust, pigments, Japanese papers, oxidation effects, and raw materials, he creates contemporary abstract paintings filled with depth, silence, and tactile presence.
His artistic language is deeply influenced by Barcelona’s architectural heritage, industrial landscapes, Japanese aesthetics, and the visual tension between structure and decay. Rust, cracks, worn surfaces, geometric fragments, and subtle patterns become visual traces of transformation — revealing paintings that feel both contemporary and timeless.
Each artwork develops slowly through layering, scraping, reconstruction, and experimentation. The process itself becomes part of the final piece, allowing textures and materials to evolve naturally across the canvas. Gold accents, dark mineral tones, neutral palettes, and suspended lines often appear throughout the compositions, creating a dialogue between fragility and strength, minimalism and raw matter.
Before dedicating himself fully to contemporary art, Sergio Aranda lived and worked in Geneva, Madrid, and Paris, experiences that shaped his international artistic vision. He also developed a career as a diamond expert gemologist (HRD) and jewelry designer, cultivating a strong sensitivity toward material, detail, balance, and composition — elements that continue to influence his paintings today.
His contemporary abstract artworks have been exhibited and collected internationally in Spain, France, Switzerland, Europe, and the United States. Through his studio practice, online presence, and social media community, Sergio shares an intimate artistic universe focused on texture, atmosphere, process, and emotional connection.
More than decorative objects, his paintings are conceived as contemporary textured artworks that invite contemplation and silence — combining industrial abstraction, minimalist aesthetics, wabi-sabi sensitivity, and architectural inspiration into a distinctive visual language.
