When Time Becomes Texture
Some materials become more beautiful the longer they endure.
Éclats du Temps explores the quiet transformation that occurs when steel oxidizes, plaster cracks, pigments fade, and architecture slowly records the passing of decades. Rather than depicting decay, the painting celebrates the extraordinary visual richness created by time itself.
Its composition recalls weathered industrial walls, abandoned architectural surfaces, and mineral landscapes where corrosion becomes a form of beauty. Layers of rust, soft ivory, mineral grey, charcoal, and subtle blue-grey accents merge into an organic surface that feels excavated rather than painted.
Built Like an Aged Architectural Wall
Created entirely by hand in my Barcelona studio, the painting is constructed through numerous layers of mixed media using professional acrylics, structured gesso, natural wood fibers, mineral compounds, and carefully developed textural techniques.
Each layer is partially concealed beneath the next, allowing fragments of previous colors and textures to emerge naturally. Fine cracks, weathered transitions, oxidized effects, and sculptural relief give the surface remarkable depth while preserving an elegant minimalist balance.
As daylight moves across the artwork, shadows reveal constantly changing details, making the painting evolve throughout the day.

Although inspired by industrial architecture, Éclats du Temps remains calm and refined. Its restrained palette allows texture to become the true protagonist, creating an atmosphere of silence, permanence, and material authenticity.

To fully appreciate the shifting shadows of the sculptural gesso, display the piece under high-quality ambient lighting or dedicated LED art spotlights.
- Dusting & Cleaning: Due to the rich, sand-crusted organic texture, dust may settle over time. Never use water, liquid cleaners, damp cloths, or chemical solvents on the surface. To clean, gently sweep the textured relief using a dry, clean, soft-bristled brush (such as a premium makeup brush or a soft hake paintbrush).
- Humidity & Temperature: Fine art canvases thrive in stable environments. Display your painting in spaces with controlled humidity and temperature. Avoid hanging the artwork directly above heavy heat sources (like active fireplaces or radiators) or in high-moisture rooms like small, unventilated bathrooms.
- Handling: When moving or hanging your artwork, always hold it securely by the wooden stretcher bar edges. Avoid pressing directly against the center of the canvas to protect the structural tension and the delicate, raised mineral reliefs.
