La Catalana — 2026
Original Mixed Media Artwork | Eroded Pop Art & Vintage Advertising
A forgotten advertisement, a timeless Mediterranean beauty, and the irresistible charm of a bygone era.
La Catalana brings the nostalgic world of vintage Spanish advertising into contemporary art. At the heart of the composition, an aged olive oil label features an elegant woman adorned with a vibrant red flower, evoking the warmth, character, and visual identity of Mediterranean culture.
Inspired by the colourful advertising graphics of the mid-20th century, the fictional brand La Catalana becomes a symbol of collective memory, everyday traditions, and the enduring beauty of old commercial imagery.
The warm ochre, faded red, and deep black tones contrast with a distressed ivory background, where layers of paint, worn surfaces, and traces of erosion create the impression of a forgotten advertisement rediscovered on an old city wall.
Through his distinctive Eroded Pop Art approach, Sergio Aranda combines the bold visual language of Pop Art with vintage aesthetics, textured surfaces, and the Wabi-Sabi philosophy. The result is a dialogue between commercial nostalgia and contemporary artistic expression.
Rather than simply recreating the past, La Catalana transforms an ordinary advertising image into a poetic reflection on time, memory, and imperfection.
A unique original artwork celebrating Mediterranean heritage, retro advertising, and the beauty of things shaped by time.

Art Care & Preservation
Art Care & Preservation
- Display & Lighting: While the archival varnish provides high-end UV protection, we highly recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to direct, harsh sunlight. To fully appreciate the shifting shadows of the sculptural gesso, display the piece under high-quality ambient lighting or dedicated LED art spotlights.
- Dusting & Cleaning: Due to the rich, sand-crusted organic texture, dust may settle over time. Never use water, liquid cleaners, damp cloths, or chemical solvents on the surface. To clean, gently sweep the textured relief using a dry, clean, soft-bristled brush (such as a premium makeup brush or a soft hake paintbrush).
- Humidity & Temperature: Fine art canvases thrive in stable environments. Display your painting in spaces with controlled humidity and temperature. Avoid hanging the artwork directly above heavy heat sources (like active fireplaces or radiators) or in high-moisture rooms like small, unventilated bathrooms.
- Handling: When moving or hanging your artwork, always hold it securely by the wooden stretcher bar edges. Avoid pressing directly against the center of the canvas to protect the structural tension and the delicate, raised mineral reliefs.
